- January 1988 The favorite daughter is at the centre of an Italian controversy between Roman Catholic groups and the residents of Pacentro who want to honor Madonna with the unveiling of a 13-foot statue of her dressed in a bustier. The Vatican and the mayor of Pacentro are outraged and fear that a statue of Madonna as a role model might corrupt the morals of Italian youths.
- August 2008 In connection with a 6 September 2008 tourstop in Rome, the mayor of Pacentro, Fernando Caparso, invites the popstar Madonna to celebrate her 50th birthday in the town of origin of her ancestors. Her manager promised to get back with the mayor in the next few days. “I’m sure that she will accept our invitation,” says the mayor, “Pacentro is just a little over an hour from Rome.

- August 2008 With the urging of an Italian journalist, a referendum is planned to ask the people of Pacentro if they want a statue dedicated to Madonna in their town center. The voting is supposed to start on September 1st and will end on September 6th, the day on which Madonna is due to perform with her Sticky & Sweet tour in Rome.
- 5 September 2008 Madonna has yet to confirm or deny she will make it to Pacentro in conjunction with her arrival in Rome for the Sweet and Sticky tour at the Olympic Stadium. In the meantime Melanie Ciccone, who resides in Florida, is quoted as being in favor of creating a statue of her sib somewhere in Pacentro.
- March 2009 The townspeople of Pacentro debate the origins of “Veronica” an appellation Madonna uses in some of her press releases. Several say this is the name she took at her childhood confirmation.
- April 2009 The owner of a local eating establishment, in honor of the town’s favorite daughter, begins selling “Pasta alla Jesusluz.” He is later quoted as saying, “I hope this sells better than the GuyRitchieBurgers….” For sale are recipes for piadina’s by the names Mark Kamins John “Jellybean” Benitez, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Sean Penn, John F.
