Darling, two Room Apartment for SALE in Pacentro, Provincia L’Aquila Italy
Pacentro is located in the newly designated National Park of the Maiella, Parco Nazionale Della Maiella. Pacentro is located about 1 hour and 40 minutes east of Rome. There is a daily bus from Sulmona to Rome and vice versa, called the Sciappa. The Sciappa arrives at Tiburtina Station in Rome. In Sulmona, you board the Sciappa at Porta Napoli, the Villa Comunale-Piazza Tresca or behind Piazza Garibaldi.

The condo is located on the second floor of a large stone & cement building that is at least two centuries old at # 4 Largo del Teatro. Largo Del Teatro is just a couple of yards off of the main square, Piazza Umberto. Piazza Umberto is nicknamed Piazza Jaringhi and this is how the locals refer to it. This is convenient to the bus stop for Sulmona, which is only about 30 feet from the door of the building. There are currently two occupied apartments in the building and 3 empty studio apartment spaces currently used for storage. Overall, only about 5 people live in the entire building, which is very quiet and private. The condo fees are only a couple of hundred dollars total for the YEAR–nothing like the USA.
The bedroom is large and is located 3 steps up from the kitchen/living area. It has a huge wall unit for hanging lots clothes and also has a few drawers. There are 2 night stands with one drawer each and additional storage below and a queen-size bed. There is also a set of bunk beds in this room so up to four people, in close quarters could sleep here–great if you have kids. The bedroom furniture and mattresses were all purchased new and are in great condition! We only stayed there about 3 1/2 weeks. The queen bed faces out of the balcony doors and you wake up every day to an incredible view of the valley looking down over Sulmona. There is a nice sized balcony off of the bedroom. We keep the clothes-drying rack out here in the summer. I also have an antique truck in the bedroom, which we used to set the suitcases on–I am going to keep this trunk as it is a family heirmloom . The floor in the bedroom is a bit dusty since it is over 200 years old and needs refinishing. I wore shoes around and had no trouble.
The kitchen/living area has 6 new chairs and a table which, can open up to seat 6 to 8 dinner guests. There is a small little fireplace, which is currently not able to maintain a fire—chimney not connected. There is a small refrigerator, oven and a fully functional sink. We have dishes, kitchen utensils and pots/pans there so you can cook in the kitchen without any problems. There is a balcony off of the kitchen that is smaller than the one in the bedroom but also has the awesome views. The kitchen door in the photos has been replaced with a new one.
Finally, the bathroom is totally renovated. There is a shower with a tiny window that overlooks the balcony and outside, a new sink and a new toilette. The whole bathroom was redone in white tile. There are places for hanging towels, toilet paper and a robe. Natural gas heating lines have been installed and only have to be connected to switch the heat to gas from propane if you desire.
People find Pacentro, a town of about 1,400 people, to be a convenient base for seeing Italy, Rome etc. As far as the town goes there are at least two small grocery stores, several bars/cafes, hardware store, several Catholic churches, an excellent restaurant, and a couple of pizza places all about 75 feet away.
A pay phone is located not 30 feet from the entrance to the building in the Piazza. As far as the town goes, the apartment is in the center of it all. The ruins of a medieval castle is the largest and most beautiful landmark in town.
We hand washed out clothes in the kitchen sink and used the rack that is there for drying! I would be happy to give you more info if you are interested, just send me an email with your questions. In closing, this a small, rustic apartment that was designed to allow us to have a place in Italy that was big enough to accommodate a few family members that wanted to visit at the same time.
Abruzzo is being called the new Tuscany, excellent food, safe, mountains and the ocean.
